Development of a preliminary in vitro drug screening assay based on a newly established culturing system for pre-adult fifth-stage Onchocerca volvulus worms., PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2019 (DOI: 10.3410/f.734877074.793557517), has been recommended in F1000Prime as being of special significance in its field by F1000 Faculty Member Achim Hoerauf.
Judy Sakanari received her PhD in Parasitology from the University of California, Berkeley and postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco.
Her career has been devoted to studying the biochemical and molecular basis of host-parasite relationships and the pathogenesis of a number of parasitic diseases. Dr. Sakanari is currently the principal investigator of a large collaborative program whose goal is to identify macrofilaricidal lead candidates for the treatment of river blindness and lymphatic filariasis.

The Henry Wheeler Center for Emerging & Neglected Diseases (CEND) Annual Symposium aims to strengthen connections between scientists working on infectious diseases of global health importance and the broader global health research, product development, and advocacy communities.
Breakfast will be served 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM. Coffee will be served throughout the day and lunch will be provided. Following the speakers, a networking reception and poster session will be from 05:30 PM to 06:30 PM.

Lenka Ulrychová of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS recently visited to learn new techniques in cultivation and microinjection of C. elegans. Masako Asahina, from the lab of Keith Yamamoto, instructed Lenka and Emma Gunderson during a two week period this December.
